Newsletter 4-26-13
Many of us have a caterpillar that has changed into a chrysalis. It is very exciting! Hopefully, in about a week we will start to see some butterflies! Ask your child what signs they are looking for to see the next stage coming.
Please wear outside shoes for P.E. (no flip flops, sandals, or dressy shoes) on Mondays and Wednesdays. We are now going outside for P.E. on those days and we don't want to have to wear our inside gym shoes and get them dirty.

Drum Griot visits
The drum griot visited us today. We learned about drumming, storytelling, and dancing. We have several talented drummers and dancers in our school!
We love audiobooks!
We have a new literacy center in our room - audiobooks! We get to listen to audiobooks on mp3 players with headphones while we read the story at the same time! Here is one group listening and reading.
Esther brought in her audiobook and did a read aloud for us. We projected it on the smartboard so everyone could see the pictures.

Our Readbox
Did you know we have a Readbox in the hall outside our door? We do! It is full of books that we have "read" in our class. Each student chose a book they read and enjoyed. They rated their book with stars and wrote what they liked about it and why they were recommending it to other readers. Here is a picture of our readbox. Much thanks to Jay's mom for making it for us. Below is Amelia's book choice and her recommendation. Stop by to check it out! We will be changing out current recommendations in a few weeks. We also have a free book box underneath to share our love of reading with other children.
Grandparent's Day and music program
Grandparent's Day was loads of fun! We had tons of special guests visiting for lunch and book fair. The book fair will continue the rest of the week in case your child still wants to make a purchase. The music program in the evening was also well attended. Congratulations on a job well done!

Thanks for sending in permission slips for our quick field trip to the planetarium at WMS on April 24. If you have not returned yours yet, please do soon. There is no cost.
The Book Fair is in the multipurpose room next week. Your child may bring in some money to purchase books and other items if they wish. It will be open Monday during Grandparent's Day as well, if Grandparents want to take them down. We go to lunch at 11:55 if your child wishes to have a special guest for lunch that day.
Students should be at the school ready for the Music program Monday at 6:40. We will be meeting in room 103.

Beach day was a blast! Thanks to everyone and their amazing flexibility in the limbo contest!
This week we worked on practicing and performing an Easter Reader's Theater performance for each other. We also took our test on telling time and graphing in math. In science, we did some fun time activities. We practiced a strategy to be able to tell how long a minute is. We observed how some things change over time, like food coloring drops in water, sugar cubes in water, and effervescing tablets in water.
Have a great Spring Break!
