Newsletter 9-25-15

We had a great time with Johnny Appleseed Day!  We got to make apple dumplings with Mrs. Keim, played an apple game with Mr. Lucas, and made apple play dough with Mrs. Helfrich.  Mrs. Hays had a special visitor, Johnny Appleseed!  He told us what life was like back in the 1700s and 1800s when he was alive and he helped us make apple cider with a vintage cider press.  It was a great afternoon.

October 2 we will be taking a field trip to Ivy Tech in Warsaw to learn about college.  It may seem like going to college is far off, but it is never too early to begin planning for the future.  This trip is free to students, but we do need you to send back the permission slip so your child can attend.  Thank you.

See the packet that came home on Thursday for more info about the Koinonia field trip.  If you wish to be a parent helper, please send a note or email to me ASAP so I can get background check paperwork to you.  Thank you.

Apple coloring and tasting

Today we learned how to blend colors when trying to color something so that it looks lifelike.  When we finished our coloring, we got to taste 5 different kinds of apples: red delicious, golden delicious, braeburn, fuji, and  granny smith.  Ask your child what their favorite was!

Our reading stamina is really growing!  We are reading for 20-25 minutes at a time without getting too tired or giving up!  Students should be reading daily at home, as well as at school.  If they keep their library books in their backpack then we always have them when we need them at school too.

Some students do not have scissors.  All second graders need their own set of scissors to keep in their art supply box for class work, switch time, and art time this year.  Thanks for your help with this!  Please write their name or initials on them too.
